Jozy Altidore to join Hull City on loan

United States national team forward Jozy Altidore will join English Premier League club Hull City on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old U.S. striker announced that he will be introduced at a news conference Thursday. "First match is against Chelsea subject to a work permit ... thanks for the support and love keep it coming."

The 19-year-old Altidore was purchased by Spanish club Villareal last summer for a record MLS transfer fee of $10 million dollars. Altidore, who first began playing professionally with the New York Red Bulls in 2006, scored 15 goals in 37 league appearances before last summer's transfer.

After the transfer, Altidore made six appearances with the La Liga side, scoring one goal. Earlier this year, he was loaned to second division club Xerez where he suffered a season-ending injury to his toe.

In June, Altidore was a prominent part of a U.S. team that made a surprising run to the finals of the Confederations Cup in South Africa. During the run, Altidore, who has represented the United States 16 times and scored seven goals, found the back of the net in the United States ' improbable 2-0 win over Spain.

After earning promotion to the Premier League last season, Hull City surprised many observers by avoiding relegation. After a strong start, in which the club lost only once in its first nine league matches, Hull 's inability to score goals led to a fall in the standings through much of the season, and the team finished 17th.

According to ESPN, Altidore is expected to be named to the roster for the United States ' August 12th qualifier in Mexico City.
